Cyanotype Negative

Photo → B&W → negative, ready for transparency film and sunlight.

How to use it

  1. Load one or more photos (colour is fine: pick a B&W filter to choose how colours turn into greys) and start from a preset, tweaking while you watch the cyanotype preview. Each photo keeps its own settings. Cyanotype has a short tonal range, so a bit of extra contrast and lifted midtones usually help.
  2. Switch to “Negative” and download it. Print it on inkjet transparency film at the size of your paper, as dense as your printer allows.
  3. Keep “Mirror” on so the printed side touches the coated paper — the image ends up the right way round and sharper.
  4. Sandwich negative and paper under glass, expose to the sun (or UV), rinse in water and let the blue come out.
